[toggle title=”10 Great Reasons to Have a Pool”]

1. Spend time with family:

When you build a swimming pool, you create a fun, relaxing place for your family to spend time together. What better way to see the kids than to create a fun and safe place to get away – right in your own backyard!

2. Host a party:

With the hot days and cool evenings of central Ohio summers, a pool is a great way to entertain. Invite your friends and neighbors over for dinner and a dip.

3. Stay healthy and lose weight:

Instead of commuting through rush hour traffic to a gym, you can exercise in your own pool. Swimming provides a total body workout and is low impact and easy on your joints.

4. Relax, relax, relax:

After a long day at work there is no better way to unwind and de-stress than a few laps in the pool.

5. Increase the value of your house:

According to research conducted by Florida State University, an in-ground swimming pool can increase the value of your home from 8 to 15 percent.

6. Beat the summer heat:

Don’t retreat into the air conditioning. Beat the heat by jumping into the pool.

7. Wise use of your money:

Who wants to wait in long lines at the airport or amusement parks when you can have a vacation in your backyard. In the long run, a pool is cheaper than going to the beach every year and will last longer too.

8. Having a resort in your backyard:

A well-designed pool is much more than a water filled hole. It can be an outdoor oasis and retreat from everyday life. Amenities such as waterfalls, spas and others can serve as an inviting centerpiece.

9. Do you know where your kids are?

A pool in the backyard makes your home a safe and convenient gathering place for your kids and their friends.

10. Fun for years to come:

Owning a pool is an investment that will repay itself many times over in memories and time spent with family and friends.

[toggle title=”10 Myths of Pool Ownership”]

1. A pool is too expensive:

Owning a pool is easier than you may think and there are many features and options that make a pool reasonably priced.

2. I’ll spend more time maintaining my pool than using it:

There are many automated options that make a pool less time consuming including automatic chlorinators, robot cleaners, etc. Plus, you can always hire a professional to do the job.

3. My electric bill will go up too much:

The cost of electricity in central Ohio is still low compared with more expensive places like California. The use of energy efficient motors and properly designed pools help ensure you only use what is needed.

4. My backyard will be ruined for the whole year:

The majority of pools are completed in just a month or two. An understanding of the construction process will help you understand what will happen to your backyard and develop realistic expectations. There are many unforeseen factors that can delay a project and a good builder will communicate any delays.

5. I’m afraid of getting taken by a dishonest builder:

Just as in any building or home improvement project, you should always check a builder’s credentials, ask for references and visit completed pools.

6. Pools require constant care:

Always ask questions about the longevity of the type of pool you are considering. Proper maintenance and care can ensure years of smooth operation.

7. I’m afraid of the risk of accidents or drowning:

Proper layers of safety such as fencing, door alarms, automatic safety covers, proper adult supervision, etc., make for an enjoyable experience. Some experts believe that pools save lives by teaching children how to swim at a young age.

8. Will my homeowner’s insurance cost more?

You should always check with your agent to get an accurate understanding of how a pool will affect your insurance.

9. I’m afraid financing will be difficult:

There are a variety of methods to finance a pool, but the most popular is a home equity loan, which also means more manageable monthly payments rather than a lump sum payment.

10. My home will be difficult to resell with a pool:

Contrary to popular opinion there are many studies that show pools will increase the resell value of your home.[/toggle]

[toggle title=”Tips for Enjoying Your Pool”]

The following tips are courtesy of the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals.

Responsible Adult Supervision is Key

There should always be an adult designated to maintain constant visual contact with children whenever they are near, or could get near, any body of water.

Entrapment Protection

An exposed suction outlet (drain) presents a serious danger to children and adults. All drains must be protected by an approved cover. If any outlet cover is broken, loose, or missing, you should close the pool immediately and contact an industry professional to make the necessary repairs. For more information on how to prevent entrapment injuries, or to learn whether your pool or spa has the proper approved covers, contact an industry professionial or the APSP.

Layers of Protection

In addition to supervision, APSP supports the concept of “layers of protection.” This means the pool, spa, or hot tub is equipped with several devices to delay unsupervised access or warn of a child’s presence. Following are some options for protecting children and preventing accidents:

  1. Fencing: Isolate the swimming pool with a minimum four-foot-high enclosure.
  2. Safety Covers: An impenetrable covering that completely covers the pool, spa, or hot tub will prevent access to the water when there is not supervision.
  3. Alarms: Alarms are available for doors, fences, in pools, and as a clip-on for children. Alarms detect unwanted entrances to your pool, spa, or hot tub.
  4. Rope and Float Line: Place these across your pool to alert swimmers to the separation of the deep end from the shallow end of the pool.
  5. Rescue Equipment: Equipment such as a life ring and shepherd’s hook should be placed near the pool in an easily accessible spot.
  6. Posted Emergency Information: Post all CPR, other emergency information, and warning signs, as well as the emergency phone number – 911 – near the pool, spa, or hot tub.
  7. Outside Telephone: Be sure to have a telephone in case you need to summon help.

Exercise

It is known by many names: water aerobics, aquatic therapy, treading water and swimming laps to name a few, but they all mean the same thing – a healthier you! Many land exercises can be hard on your muscles and joints. Exercising in water can provide relief to your aching body. The water supports your body weight and provides resistance for muscle strengthening while swimming and water aerobics provide great cardio-vascular, low impact workouts. Swimming also burns lots of calories, the average person will burn 900 calories per hour while swimming.

[toggle title=”Maintaining Your Pool”]

A swimming pool can be intimidating and overwhelming for new owners; however, we are here to help. If you prefer to maintain the pool yourself we will provide a show ‘n tell to give you an idea of how the pool equipment operates, how to keep the pool clean and how and when to add chemicals. We recommend that new owners create a routine until they are comfortable with how the pool operates. This routine should include…

  • Test the water every day
  • Clean out the pump and skimmer baskets
  • Check over the equipment to make sure everything is operating properly
  • Vacuum the pool to remove leaves and other debris
  • Backwash the sand filter or clean the cartridge filter

After a few weeks you will lean how your pool operates and be able to adjust the frequency of the above routine to an as needed basis. If you need help our showroom is stocked with a full line of pool and spa chemicals and also has a complete water testing station on which we can test your water and provide a personalized readout of results.

If you only want to enjoy the pool, we provide a professionally trained service staff to meet your needs ranging from weekly service to equipment repair and replacement.
